World premiere at InnoTrans 2026: Further development of a shunting assistant
Weiterentwicklung eines Rangierassistenten, welcher geschobene Fahrten in der Letzten Meile ohne einen zusätzlichen Rangierbegleiter ermöglicht.
SAMIRA is an assistance system for the shunting of rail vehicles over the ‘last mile’, in which modern sensor technology is mounted in a portable sensor module (SAMIRAmobil) on the rear carriage of a shunting consist, thereby enabling the shunting locomotive driver to carry out pushed movements safely even without a shunting assistant.
A display in the locomotive’s driver’s cab (SAMIRAhmi) shows the real-time video stream from the rear carriage, in which key features such as people near the tracks, distances and speeds are highlighted using augmented reality.
If obstacles are detected on the track ahead, a braking recommendation is displayed to the shunting locomotive driver if necessary. Other important information, such as the position of an upcoming points or the predicted braking distance, can also be superimposed onto the video stream. This gives the locomotive driver a comprehensive overview of what is happening at the other end of the shunting section. To this end, the live data is securely transmitted from the sensor module to the display on the locomotive using 5G mobile communications technology.
