Climate chamber

A climate chamber enables components, materials and seals to be tested under extreme temperature conditions. For example, this makes it possible to test whether components for rail vehicles function reliably in both severe frost and extreme heat.

Our role
General planning and delivery
Raised steel frame of the substructure with ENSYTEC nameplate above the test rig

During the planning and implementation phases, we optimised the substructure to ensure short changeover times.

Features

Substructure

The substructure for the vertical floor consists of a platform which is supported on one side in such a way that it can rotate. The vertical floor is mounted on this platform. In the working position, it is additionally supported by two struts from the substructure for the horizontal floor. This ensures that the vertical floor can be used and loaded whilst in the working position. However, should the horizontal floor need to be used, the space required for this can be made available in a considerably shorter time. To this end, the substructure for the vertical floor is designed to be swivelling, so that the vertical floor can be swivelled upwards out of the required space. In this position, the substructure for the vertical floor is locked in place.

Applications

Ageing and stress tests

Components are exposed to fluctuating temperatures and loads over extended periods.

Investigation of materials and seals

How do materials and seals behave in frost, heat and damp conditions?

Inspection of measurement and testing systems

Measurement equipment can be tested under defined environmental conditions.

Demonstration of functionality under realistic operating conditions

The climate chamber simulates the conditions of the future operating environment.

Check for condensation, corrosion or deformation

Changes in temperature and humidity reveal where damage may occur.

Certification of battery systems

The test benches are used in the certification of battery systems for electric vehicles.

Scope of services

We were responsible for the overall planning and supplied the following components for the installation of two 300 kN vibration test rigs with climate control:

  • Substructure and handling systems for the climate chamber and its floors, optimised for short changeover times

  • Access facilities (stairs, ladders and platforms) in accordance with DIN EN ISO 14122

  • Safety device to prevent the test specimen from falling during set-up

The engineering process is based on our 3D scan of the installation room.
